9am – 1pm – Resident Rights – This four hour course meets requirements toward the 80 hour recertification program required for board and care operators. Presenters will discuss the Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly Act and regulation of RCFE by the State Department of Social Services. Just as we all are guaranteed certain freedom and rights under federal and state laws, residents in residential care facilities for the elderly are guaranteed additional rights because of physical or cognitive limitations.

1:30pm – 3:30pm – Creating a Community prepared to serve LGBT Older Adults – The purpose of this course is to provide an overview and understanding of the culture of seniors who self-identify as LGBT. This course will focus on learning how to provide quality care to this group of individuals, focusing on creating a diverse, openly welcome, and empathic residential care community. At the end of the course, attendees will be equipped with the necessary skills to care for and support the needs of these individuals and their families. In addition to having the knowledge necessary to help prevent future cases of discrimination.
