Course Overview: The purpose of this course is to provide an overview and understanding of the culture of seniors who self-identify as LGBT. This course will focus on learning how to provide quality care to this group of individuals, focusing on creating a diverse, openly welcome, and empathic residential care community. At the end of the course, attendees will be equipped with the necessary skills to care for and support the needs of these individuals and their families.

Course Overview: All states designate certain professionals as mandated reporters – some states require all citizens to report. California law REQUIRES certain persons to report known or suspected abuse of dependent adults or elders. This two-hour course will focus on AB40 Elder Abuse and Dependent Adult Civil Protection Act that establishes various procedures for the reporting, investigation, and prosecution of elder and dependent adult abuse. Instructor will help administrators and team members to better understand compliance with mandated reporter requirements.

Subject Code: 06 – Physical Needs
Course Overview: During this 6-hour course, instructor(s) will provide information and suggestions on how to maintain a daily oral hygiene regimen for residents and older adults, including those with dentures. Assistance with daily oral hygiene is often needed for adults who have loss of strength, mobility or dexterity or have experienced conditions such as a stroke, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s. Nutrition for the Elderly & Professionals Caring for Them, instructor will discuss how nutrition, or the lack thereof affects body and health of their elderly residents. Attendees will learn the importance of providing nutrition to combat unintentional weight loss and malnutrition. Instructor will discuss what’s normal aging and provide ways for administrators to implement anti-aging functions into facility such as exercise. Aging, in and of itself, is a subtle, quiet process unless an individual has a sudden change or feels pain, that is a red flag and not normal aging.
