10:00 am – 12:00 pm End of Life Care for People with Dementia
This two hour course will discuss end-of-life care for residents with advanced dementia key issues: appropriate management of symptoms including pain, behaviors and the involvement of programs such as hospice. Aggressive medical treatment for residents with advanced dementia is often inappropriate for medical reasons, has a low rate of success, and can have negative outcomes that hasten functional decline and death. This two-hour course will help attendees understand hospice care and how it is a helpful service for dementia residents.

12:30-2:30 pm Getting to the Heart of Hospice:
This two hour course will help administrators better understand key aspects of hospice care and review the benefits of having hospice in their care business. Discussion will include Hospice’s focus on caring, not curing. Where hospice is provided, who hospice is available to and how it is paid for. This course will review Hospice Self-Assessment Guide key points regarding waivers and working with hospice agencies.
